2/24/13 VA – AT Ashby Gap (VA601) to VA605

I started this winter with a goal…to hike throughout the cold months.  That may not seem like such a big deal, but for me it is a challenge.  When the cold wind blows, all I want to do is curl up in a comfy chair and drink hot chocolate!  So December came, and I kept hiking…January, I logged 53 miles…and then came the February Funk.  What a month!   It got cold, but more than that, the rain/sleet kept our winter here in Maryland a disgusting mess.  No real snow, just cold, windy and wet.  My hiking came to a standstill, until Sunday, February 24!

The Trail Dames broke me of my February Funk!  This part of the AT is the beginning of the roller coaster.  I was sure it would be a humbling experience since I hadn’t really hiked since January…but it was great…a little puffing up the hills but hey, I was out on the trail! It was sunny and a balmy 48 degrees!  Spring is almost here, YESSSSSSS!
